Contra Costa County Seeks Candidates For Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council

Martinez, Calif .– The Contra Costa County Oversight Board is seeking candidates interested in serving on its 20-member Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council (JJCC). The JJCC currently has the following five (5) vacant positions:
- At-Large Representative (3)
- Community organization representative (2)
The Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council is a multi-agency advisory body that informs the development and implementation of a county-wide juvenile justice plan consisting of several core parts, including, but without limitation, an assessment of existing law enforcement, probation, education, mental health, health, social services, drug and alcohol services, and resources for young people, which specifically target both young people at the promise and young people involved in the system, and their families.
The JJCC will also coordinate at the county level the work of governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in activities aimed at reducing the incidence of juvenile delinquency and delinquency in the whole community, develop information systems and intelligence sharing to ensure county actions are fully coordinated and provide appropriate data and outcome measures.
The Juvenile Justice Coordination Council is made up of the following 20 members:
Ten (10) ex officio members:
- chief of probation, as chairman
- Representative of the public prosecutor’s office
- Representative of the Office of the Public Defender
- Sheriff’s Office Representative
- Representative of the Supervisory Board
- Representative of the Directorate of Employment and Personal Services
- Behavioral Health Services Representative
- Representative of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Division
- Public health representative
- Chairman of the Juvenile Justice Commission
Ten (10) Additional Members, appointed by the Supervisory Board, as follows:
- Municipal police representative
- County education office or school district representative
- Four (4) At-Large members, residing or working in Contra Costa County
- Two (2) representatives of community organizations
- Two (2) young At-Large, between the ages of fourteen and twenty-five and residing or working in Contra Costa County
Appointments to the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council will be for two years. The JJCC meets every month from October to April and every two months the rest of the year. Members have the option of serving on two (2) sub-committees which currently each meet on a monthly basis.
Applications will be due by 5:00 p.m. on December 3, 2021, and all suitable applicants will be invited to the public interview process conducted by the Board of Supervisors’ Public Protection Committee: Supervisors Candace Andersen, District II, and Federal Glover, District V. This committee will then recommend a selection of supervisory board candidates to be appointed to the racial justice oversight body.
Below is a complete schedule of this recruitment process to fill the five (5) vacant JJCC seats:
- December 3: last day of the application period, to be submitted by 5:00 p.m.
- December 16: Meeting of the Public Protection Committee: Interviews
- January 11: Appointments to the Supervisory Board
