Vomitory will turn 15 this October and after this one and a half decade they are releasing their fifth album now. And what an album it is?! Well, to tell you the truth, "Primal Massacre" is nothing special but pure Vomitory. That means 100% pure old-school death metal in the Swedish vein. That's all but that is perfect. Non-compromising, brutal yet melodic death metal with superb zombie-like growlings - the way I like it the best.

Ten furious tracks are combining brutality and melodies in an ominous way. An incredible amount of energy breaks loose as the music kicks off and while the music is raging on full throttel, Erik Rundqvist's sinister vocals are gurgling up from the deep realms of his stomach. This time the music has got a more thrashy approach and while it means more slowed down, mid-paced parts in it, it also provides more energy and infernal heavy riffings in this brutal, intensive mass of music. The rhythm section is amazing and again doing their job very well, just like everybody else in the band. The heavy melodies and massive music of "Primal Massacre" - staying true to its title - tramples us down and we are only left there to helplessly worship them.
Don't want me to pick out any of the songs on "Primal Massacre" because I love them all. This album continues where "Blood Rapture" left off and "Blood Rapture" was among my top 10 albums of 2002; I think it says enough about "Primal Massacre" as well.

The album was recorded in Kuling studio and the mixing was done in Berno Studio. The result is a thick and clear sound - balanced perfectly for a death metal album. The cover artwork was done by Juan Jose Castello and well, Vomitory was never famous for great album covers. This time again, they have got only a typical death metal album cover but at least if you look at it, you know what to expect. Old-school death metal, in its best form. As Ulf Dalegren, their guitar player summarized: "It's a killer album! As always nothing for the weak hearted."
