8. Where Have The Angels      Disappeared
9. Like A Heart

"Soulhunter" is already Voice's fourth longplayer but I haven't heard any of their previous records. When I put the disc into the player during the first song and titletrack "Soulhunter" I had hopes for a timeless melodic heavy rock album.

Too bad that already the second song "Devilish Temptation" sounded way too much like stereotypical melodic power metal, in the sense that power metal is used nowadays. You know, the kind with double bass just for the double bass' sake and happy sing-along choruses on top (so not much power at all, hehe). Not really my thing. The third track "Valhalla" does not even have a touch of viking feel to it (musically). All of the songs definitely are catchy, no doubt about that. And the choruses are maybe not as happy and cheesy as the ones from some other bands. Luckily, singer Oliver Glas is not totally shrieking his way through the whole album, so it's still quite pleasant to listen to (which is also thanks to the extensive use of backing vocals). But still the arrangements are predictable and so is the obligatory ballad "Where Have The Angels Disappeared". The problem with this album is, that it lacks originality from beginning to end. It might be nice to listen to but it could be the album by any other band of the genre. I constantly feel reminded of other bands, Edguy for example. And a few proggy elements don't necessarily make an album progressive or more interesting.

Too keep a long story short: "Soulhunter" doesn't carry any surprises. The worst thing is that Voice leave me indifferent to their output. It's not the biggest crap I've heard in a long time nor is it really good. I still believe fans of the genre who are looking for some new material to listen to will enjoy this album.
