Unchained from Sweden formed in the beginning of 1999 and from what I can read in the bio they must have been quite successful on the live sector already (they played Sweden Rock Festival for example). It doesn't take much imagination to believe this because the music is definitely made to be performed live. Then I read in the info that it took them six months to record this self-titled debut and that surprised me a little. Excuse me - six months??

It's quite obvious that these guys are very influenced by Iron Maiden. I guess they won't be surprised when almost everybody will say that. So, while the mighty Maiden is around often it's not always a simple clone - although the influences are so prominent that it's sometimes almost annoying again. Even singer Per Karlsson sounds like a cross between Bruce Dickinson and Jonny Lindkvist (Nocturnal Rites). Pretty cool though.
All of the songs are melodic mid-tempo heavy rock numbers, most of them with great choruses and/or vocal arrangements such as "My Guide", "Theater Of Fear" or "Seventh Sin". As I already mentioned earlier I can very well imagine these guys to kick some serious ass live with this material. With "I Dream" you'll find the obligatory (?) ballad in the middle of the album.

If you're into melodic metal that is not of the annoying euro-speed kind and can't wait to get your hands on good new (but not highly original) stuff, Unchained are a good choice.
