When ThunderStorm's music sets in with "Templars Of Doom (Dark Knight Return)" it's immediately clear what you are going to get: heavy doommetal in the vein of one of the classics in the genre, Candlemass. I had seen them open up at the Rock Hard Festival last May, where I wasn't immediately convinced, but I did notice they had a very good response for such an early gig. And when I now listen to this CD I have to admit it's really well done, good musicianship, great vocals, good sound, very good songs.

Second song "Forbidden Gates" stands out, because it starts more up-tempo, and I love it! The slow, dragging middle part is great! Such heavy repetitive riffs - great vocallines too! With "Black Light" it's back to a slow pace again, ultra-slow even. Then the gazillionth cover of Iron Butterfly's "In A Gadda Da Vida" comes by, but it's well done, of course much heavier than the 1968 original. "My House Of Misery" is very slow again and the rest of the songs are typical doom as well, but it also means that the last half of the CD is a bit less diverse than the first half.

With the heavy, soaring riffs, good rhythm section and Fabio "Thunder" Bellan's great and emotional voice this is a gem for all doom lovers! Pick up this 3rd CD of these Italian Templars of Doom if you miss new outputs from Candlemass (or Trouble)!
