"Dad, what is heavy metal?"
"Look, son, here's the new Tarot cd. That's heavy metal! You know, before there were all these Nightwishes, Children of Bodom, Sonata Arcticas and all the like, there was Tarot."
"Really?"
"Yep! The guys of Tarot were already playing heavy metal when all those others were young enough to ask their mums to wipe their butts. Tarot could easily be described as godfathers of Finnish heavy metal."

So there's an introduction to all of you whose eyes are going round and round after having read the name of the band. Tarot indeed have existed for nearly two decades and this is their sixth full length studio album. Between this one and the previous album "For The Glory Of Nothing" there was a five year gap, but I assure you, Tarot are stronger and probably also more aggressive than ever. The album opener "I Rule" kicks your ass to pieces from the first second on. "Follow The Blind" is an examplary anthem on how to very heavy and melodic at the same time. "Undead Son" possesses such a chorus that it is tattooed into your mind for good. There are also some peaceful moments like "Of Time And Dust". "From The Void" again clarifies what melodic heavy metal is all about.

There are absolutely no weak moments at all on the album, although it may take a few spins to get into, as it also did for me. There are all the elements that are needed in order to create perfect heavy metal: monstrous riffs, crunchy guitars, an excellent singer, catchy melodies and a flawless production and the synth is being used very thoughtfully, remaining in the background. Damn damn, it's actually rather difficult to describe an album as great as "Suffer Our Pleasures". Absolutely a buy-or-die item.

Marco Hietala's voice and singing in general is simply amazing. His voice varies from stunning clean to somewhat rough continuously remaining very strong. The riffs and the overall sound are so heavy, that one would need a trowel to scrape oneself from the wall. It's actually quite surprising that Tarot sound exactly the way heavy metal is supposed to sound like, and "heavy metal" indeed is the term to describe them, but they still manage to sound very unique.

"So there you have it, kids. The only difference between "Suffer Our Pleasures" and getting beaten by Mike Tyson is that after "Suffer Our Pleasures" you just keep on wanting more and more. Go get it now!"
