Svartsyn was formed in 1991 as Chalice, changing their name to Svartsyn in 1993. Draugen (ex-Dark Funeral) teamed up with original founding member Ornias in 1996 and since then, they are working smoothly together. Draugen is responsible for drumming while vocals and guitars are Ornias' duties who is also the song and lyrics writer of Svartsyn. Through the years they released several demos, EPs and after three years of silence, in 2003, they are unleashing their newest work, numbered four in their discography, "Destruction Of Man" upon us.

"Destruction Of Man" is a 41 minutes long, raw, old-school black metal album. Their sound is somewhere in between the vein of early Satyricon, Darkthrone and Mayhem. Dark, grim, misantrophic music. Mid paced, traditional black metal with monotone themes and predictable changes, aggressive but still having some melody in it. But anyway, this is a pure piece underground black metal, where black metal really dwells. Of course the sound of the album also reminds of the early 90's, it is soiled and musty, creating a dark atmosphere.

It's a nice piece of traditional black metal but holds no surprises or unique compositions. I don't say it's a must for every black metal fan but recommended. For those who like original black metal there is no need for more explanation but for those who think they are into black metal because they like Dimmu Borgir or Cradle Of Filth I would strongly advice to give a listen to bands like Svartsyn, to get a hint where black metal really beings. HELLCOME!
