A band from Italy NOT playing cheesy power metal? I had to check it out ;)
Subliminal Crusher formed around two years ago in winter 2002 and after being part of a couple of compilations they are now promoting their band with their first self-financed CD "Life Drought" which was already released last year.

So, already judging by the band name one couldn't really expect cheesy power metal and indeed Subliminal Cruhser are offering thrash metal with death metal thrown in. Sounds pretty much like nothing new and yeah, the band didn't really invent something new with this album. Still I have to attest that the songs -although they tend to sound a little too alike- kick butt and it's definitely no torture to listen to "Life Drought" ;)
While we talk Italian thrash/death metal here, the guitars are definitely often very "Swedish metal"-inspired which means that the songs are quite melodic in that aspect. The growls are still somewhat understandable. The sound is rather modern, mostly thanks to the production (drums in particular).
As a bonus, this demo contains a cover version of Death's "Pull The Plug".
All in all, "Life Drought" is a cool thing and considering that this is just the first full length demo one can definitely expect (and look forward to) more from this band in the future.

Anyone interested in the genre can simply check out three full songs as mp3 files on the band's website where you will also find all necessary info on how to get hold of the complete album or get in touch with the band.
