Finnish Silentium are back with their third full length release. Their blend of emotional, dark, partly symphonic and gothic metal reaches to new dimensions with this latest effort "Sufferion - Hamartia Of Prudence". With the previous albums being very promising Silentium hit the jackpot with this one. They have 16 tracks on the album of which half are the actual songs and half are in-between parts of a play. The album is a concept album that tells a horror/love story taking place in England. The band certainly took an ambitious task to write a theatrical concept album that would also be a play with not one silent moment during the 68 minutes the album lasts. The final output? Impressive, to say the least. Lyrics and the script for the story were written by Matti Aikio (vocals & bass) and the music is mainly composed by Sami Boman (keyboards). Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish produced the album and the final result is very impressive. The music is still melancholic, dark, melodic and quite pompous with string orchestrations. The music ranges from beautiful, yet morose atmospheric parts to pounding heavy and aggressive dark goth metal. The male vocals are both clean and growly. The clean parts sound a little weak at times. The female vocals are handled by W.Lilith, also known as Tanya (ex-Lullacry), and her angelic voice adds loads of etherial atmosphere to the album. The dialogue between the actual songs is handled by a few Finnish actors. Partly their performance is a bit amateurish and also occasionally some improvement in English pronunciation would come in handy. But all in all the play supports the actual music quite well. And it certainly makes it easier to follow the storyline. Simply put this is a very good album and definitely Silentium's strongest work to date.
