Hailing from Orange County, Scars Of Tomorrow offer metalcore and "Rope Tied To The Trigger" is their third album already. I've never heard of them before, probably because I don't follow the US metalcore scene (or any other metalcore scene for that matter) simply because metalcore isn't my thing. And yeah, that's gonna make reviewing this album hard for me. I'm into metal not hardcore, damn it.

I'm aware that the fusion of metal and hardcore is on the rise for quite some time now....this release clearly emphasizes hardcore though. Too bad the eleven songs sound pretty much the same, it's just a wall of heavy noisy guitars to me most of the time. Still, there are a few tracks sticking out. "As We Choke" for example is a little more melodic (catchy even) and thus more pleasant to listen to and another one would be the final track "Design Your Fate" (which is also available for download from the band's website) with its groovy and also more melodic touch to it. I should mention that the drumming appears to be above average - at least for what I would expect from a hardcore band.

There are two vocal styles (if you can call it that way) to be found on this album: the more metal/thrash like shouting which I find ok but not outstanding and some clean, spoken-word like rap (?) shouting which is just horrible. That is probably the main reason for me to not listen to this album again.

"Rope Tied To The Trigger" is a heavy and brutal album and it might blow metalcore fans away. I don't know. As I lack an understanding for the genre, I'll go for an average rating.
