About 6 months ago I've reviewed the first self-financed CD of Pump (the title was "I") - now a remastered version with a new title and artwork has been released in Germany by Neon Knight Records. Although the sound is a bit better, I will stick to the same 4 Morrigans since it's still the same recording. Here's the original review once more, just keep in mind that the tracklisting has been changed a bit:

"Normally I wouldn't easily review a CD this melodic, but this band features ex-Brainstorm singer Marcus Jürgens. I don't want to see that incredible talent go to waste, so I've been supporting him whenever I can. Marcus also used to sing in Kashmyr, but unfortunately they disbanded a while ago. In Kashmyr his singing still reminded me of his Brainstorm days ("Hungry" & "Unholy"), but here with Pump the vocallines are very different: much more melodic, sometimes sleazy ("Dangerous", "It's Too Late", "Shake") and not as high. No worries, it's still that strong, warm and soulful voice :)

The songs are very melodic, in the vein of bands like Skid Row, Dokken or Guns'n'Roses and overall pretty strong compositions with great guitarwork by Ullrich Simon Hauff and Aki Reissman. Opener "Dangerous" starts off with a pounding beat and the song pretty much lets you know what Pump's about. The next few songs don't really stand out for me and the ballad "It's Too Late" is not as strong as it could've been, the vocals remind me of Axl Rose a bit in this song, but it could've been much more passionate. "Shake" is again more sleazy with some cool riffs, but the chorus makes me cringe, it's way too cheesy. Luckily it's an exception, the rest of the lyrics are just fine. "I'm Free" is another slow song that I like a bit better than "It's Too Late", it seems to be more driven, but "No Fight - No Glory" (one of the heavier songs), "Reckless" and the energetic closer "Heaven Cries (Blood Red Skies)" are by far my favorites of the album.

It's a little hard to give notes when you're not too familiar with the style a band plays, but I'll leave one Morrigan open because I don't feel we've seen all of Pump's quality yet, esp. when it comes to songwriting. Half of the songs are really good already, but I feel this band still can and will grow in their songwriting process - the potential for a top record (and with that some fame and success) is certainly there! The voice is great, I really really love the guitarwork (most of the riffing as well as the beautiful solos) and the production is crystal clear. In general this is a record that should appeal to a wide audience and has a lot of hit potential as well - where are the record companies??"
