Irish Primordial started a complete new chapter in their band career with a new record deal at Metal Blade. Seems a fresh Irish wind was blowing through everything without loosing the roots. A change to the Couldron Studios where Producer Billy Anderson did a fantastic job. A different artwork compared to the old, but the digital art perfectly reflexes the dark dramatically mourning atmosphere of the album "The Gathering Wilderness". A bittersweet breeze of melancholy, a touch of doom, all in combination with tragical lyrics.

While the Irish heritage is always present, a theatrically mournful Nemtheanga gives us his view of the pantheon of old Gods, the concept of the neverending spiral in the song "The Golden Spiral". It's the first song on the album "The Gathering Wilderness". A great guide into the dark tragical world of Primordial, it starts slowly and then becomes very powerful. The title track "The Gathering Wilderness" with its beautiful melancholy telling about the ghosts of our past and changes of the world these days. A travel between here and the past. "Song Of The Tombs" is about the warriors of the legend and the legends we write today. Guitar riffs like lashes and the rhythm section like a battlefield... followed by "End Of All Times (Martyrs Fire)", a song about these desperate times when the day comes, the wolf is let loose and awakes the beast in the man... it critically confronts the situation of the world these days. Bittersweet is "The Coffin Ships" about a famine that ravaged Ireland and over three million people were lost to a combination of starvation and emigration, which represents possibly the greatest tragedy of the country. The band describes "Tragedies Birth" as a black macabre dream of vast nightmare continents, shifting, heaving and seethings, before the dawn of man. Wonderful acoustic guitars guide you into the battle... where Nemtheanga painfully screams about his view of the world these days. The ballad "Cities Graved In Stone" guides you out of the this unique world of Primordial. After the last tunes have resounded and the silence that followed I had the urge to make braids in my hair and re-press the the play button...
