The german newcomers Predator are compared to great bands like Blind Guardian or Edguy. Well, I'd say they have made kind of their own style. Still melodic, but there definetely are some thrashy influences. The opener for example has cool riffs and some aggression within the song. I would rather compare them to Angel Dust, melodic and still aggressive. Unfortunately, the first song was the best... Well, "Addicted To Pain" is a good one too, less thrash, more mid-tempo power. But the others aren't bad. For example "Buried Alive" reminds me of Nevermore, that somehow psycho-melodic style, and the intro riff of "Coming Home" is in a certain way related to Stratovarius' "Forever Free", but nevermind, the song is really good! In contrary to the kind of happy song, "Dreams Assassin" pulls one into a very dark mood, very well done! Another very good song is "Outlaw", a song with great variety and good vocals by singer Marko Osterholz. The last song "Night Of The Witches" is another highlight. The songwriting compared to the tightness of the band and powerful vocals and pounding drums makes Predator strong! Altogether, it is a good debut album, the songwriting could be more straight in some ways, but all over, the self-entitled record is a good one. Let's wait for more!
