What is it? Is it Superman? No, it's the new wave of British power metal! And this particular band goes under the name Power Quest! They are a five-piece band that hail from England and as you probably can tell by the name, they play melodic power metal in the vein of Rhapsody, Freedom Call and Stratovarius. Personally I was so eagerly awaiting this one that my expectations rose to high heavens and I'm glad to announce that the wait was well worth it. An amazing debut album full of catchy, fast, melodic and memorable songs and a somewhat heroic, pompous atmosphere.

The songs are driven by shredding guitars and an amazing keyboard performance by Steve Williams who is responsible for almost all of the songwriting. The album starts with an intro and ends with an outro and between them we have 8 fast and amazing power metal anthems, with the exception of the beautiful ballad "Immortal Plains". A few of the songs do, however, stand out from the rest, them being the title track "Wings Of Forever", "Far Away", "Glory Tonight", "Power Quest (Part 1)" and....actually I could name all the songs here, but let's just say that the rest of the songs are also high above mediocrity. The whole album just makes you want to press the play button again and again. Actually, both "Far Away" and "Glory Tonight" are such earcandy that they could be used as teaching material for power metal students! Eventhough the songs are catchy as hell, a little variation wouldn't do any harm because now it seems like they've used a similar formula for most of the songs.

Alessio Garavello's vocals are just as great as one might expect, although his Italian nationality does shine through in his pronunciation at times. The crystal clear sound was created by producer Karl Groom (from the prog metal band Threshold) and the only thing that bothers me even a little, is the occasional machine-like sound of the drums. Still, considering that this is a debut album...let's just hope there's lots and lots of more to come! If you're into lightning fast power metal with amazing keyboards, a standout singer and damn catchy melodies, you have to check Power Quest out!
