Perzonal War are a bunch of talented German guys who are constantly being compared to Metallica, which doesn't do the band justice. Surely the former metal heroes are among their influences (esp. in the vocals), but these guys have a lot more up their sleeves. These metal songs have a lot of melody and variety, sometimes doomy, sometimes fast (but mostly mid-tempo), sometimes a tad progressive. The CD starts with a partially faster song , "Time Of Lies", good to loosen up the ol' neckmuscles. "Bleeding" is dragging and soaring, "Born" is again fast, "The Progress" is a narrated, classical intro (written by Victor Smolski, who also layed down a few solos on this album) to the catchy and somewhat grungy and melancholic "Open My World". A world-class song that's a bit different from the rest, but gets stuck in your head right away! Again soaring guitars and very well sung. "The Urge For More" doesn't really stand out for me, "Blinder" however is again faster and more interesting for me. "Dragon_s Mouth" has a great riff and one of those Smolski-solos. "What Is God" is another dragging song, a bit like a doomy Nevermore song. Back to mid-tempo and another very catchy chorus ("hey, hey!" ;)) with "Our Century", then concluding with the bonustrack "Ending Dreams" that sums up all the band's good trades again :)

So all in all a very interesting metal album by a band that is (as it seems to me) still growing into a distinctive own sound that could one day make them really succesful. The production is well done and clear, though I wouldn't mind a phatter sound with these songs.
