Nine years of silence have been broken with "Alive Again". New York based Nuclear Assault is back. In fact this comeback period started last year with several live performances. Getting back to the circulation with a live album is a courageous step. You can't be sure that after the long years people are still interested in you. But on the other hand, with a live album they can show they are still alive and they are still able to play as intensive and tight as we used to know them. So, we can consider it as the best thing they can do.

Many of us will find "Alive Again" nostalgic and for them I don't have too much to say about this album. But for those who are unfamiliar with Nuclear Assault, I can tell "Alive Again" is the best example of how the biggest musical madness, called thrash sounded in the '80s. An energetic, storming, uncompromising musical attack with nerve-tearing screaming vocals. Of course we are talking about the American line now, with bands like Overkill or Anthrax, etc. besides Nuclear Assault.
The compilation of the songs on a live album is always something you can complain about because for sure, some of your favourites are always left out. But in this case, when songs like "Brainwashed", "F#", "Sin", "Betrayal" from their more technical side, the furious paced "Radiation Sickness" are blowing out from the speakers, we should shut up. Not to mention "Rise From The Ashes", thats been chosen as an opening track (nicely referring to their comeback?). They keep our blood boiling with "Game Over" and to add more fuel to the flames John Conelly states "We will not only hang him, but we will hang all the f*** priests". And for closing the album, as a final revenge, they play "Hang The Pope". By the way, there is not much communication between the band and the audience. Feels like they had gone on stage and except that 3-4 sentences, 38 mintues later they left.

There is one thing I can complain about. Its length. 38 minutes is ridiculously short. Another thing that might be problematical is the sound. I guess they wanted to keep this record raw, to catch the spirit of a thrash gig, but since I wasn't there I can't fully enjoy this dusty sound and the energy of this music can't come through either.

But in spite of all my negative comments, "Alive Again" is a must for everybody who thinks he is really into thrash. And for those who don't care to even give it one listen, let me use John's words from "Brainwashed": "Why don't you care for yourself?".
