Nostradameus are yet again a band from Sweden playing power metal. This is their third full-length release and with this one they've gone from more happy sounding power metal to a direction of a bit slower and traditional heavy metal. Most of the songs are packed full with pounding double bass drumming and heavy riffs with influences from some traditional 80's heavy metal and also some "newer" power metal elements are present.

The album starts with "Far Too Strong" which sounds almost oppressive with its keyboards. The album opener actually sets the expectations quite high as it is the best tune on the album. The second one "Randall Flagg" is more typical power metal with a fast tempo, double bass drumming and shredding guitars. Both "Those Things You Did" and "The Future Will Show" vary between mid-paced and furiously fast parts but unfortunately don't manage to offer anything groundbreaking. "If We Believe (In Our Dreams)" continues in same vein, double bass, heavy riffs and choirs to back up the singer and a semi-catchy chorus. "Revenge Is Mine" is quite nice one. A strong, yet simple tune that simply has "heavy metal" written all over it. "1986", "H.M.S. Ulysses" and "In Harmony" are again another ones sounding fairly ok, but nothing more. "Towards The Sleep (Stalingrad)" is an instrumental ballad that sounds actually quite nice with its soaring guitars.

Freddy Persson's singing sounds a bit different from the prototype of the genre, a bit squawking actually, which is nice to some, annoying to others. Sadly it seems like Nostradameus' main focus is speed and just sounding really heavy and the compositions themselves seem to suffer because of that. Still the musicianship is nothing to complain about. I have to say that since I'm not too familiar with the first two albums I can't really comment on whether this album is regression or progression in comparison to them. Where most melodic power metal bands manage to offer some catchy melodies, those are unfortunately almost entirely absent on this one. There are some nice riffs and hooks but most of the material just passes you by without you even noticing it. Sad but true.
