Genrewise Nightingale can be described as something between hard rock and AOR, mixed with 70's progressive rock and spiced up with gothic influences. But the truth is that Nightingale's Swan÷ brothers Dan and Dag (a.k.a. Tom Nouga) have managed to create their own style - a style that doesn't have a name. Their band's music doesn't have much innovation or any unique elements - it all have been used before thousands times but despite Nightingale have their own original sound that can be recognized from the very first seconds. I may call it "intelligent rock" - everything is well calculated, you can hear that this music is played by very clever and experienced musicians... but it still has a rock feeling - just as much as needed. Musically, the fourth Nightingale album continues the direction of its predecessor "I" and contradictionally it's very diverse and solid at the same time. It's diverse because there are songs for everyone, ranged from mellow AOR to in-your-face hard rock. But it's solid because all songs fit each other and the album does incredible impression when listened through from the beginning to the end. What else can I say? Maybe only that "Alive Again" may please even those who did not like the previous non extreme outputs of Dan Swan÷. And, of course, that I hope, Black Mark will promote this album better than "I".
