One of the good reunions of all those 80's bands is the one of the cult band around "Nasty" Ronnie Galetti: Nasty Savage. I don't know their older material very well (I never really got into the band at the time), but it seemed they pretty much picked up where they left things, yet brought it up-to-date and so the new songs sound classic, 80's, but also fresh and fuckin heavy! I think the riffs are often not too original - it's amazing how a Florida band can sound so much like a (mostly) Bay Area one: mix Exodus, ooooold Slayer, some Testament, some Death Angel and Mercyful Fate, you'll get an idea. But that's not all!

So, the riffs (vocals too btw) are very similar to what we know of the aforementioned bands, but don't get me wrong, they are very heavy and in-your-face with a progressive twist. There is a lot of variation within the songs - very technical thrash metal overall! There are lots of changes in the pace as well as the moods, great solos by Ben Meyer and Dave Austin, immense powerful drumming by Curtis Beeson (overall powerful rhythm section by Curtis and bassist Richard Bateman) and a phat production to top things of. So yeah I'm pretty enthusiastic about most of the songs, but I didn't mention the vocals yet. They are typical Nasty Ronnie, reminding a lot of bands like Exodus and old Slayer (and some high parts I could do without), but I'm personally not crazy about them. I find that a bit more melody and power in the vocals would do the music much more justice - but that's probably all just a matter of taste. BTW, wrestler/singer Chris Jericho is doing some back up vocals on a.o. "Savage Desire" and the IMO terrible title shreeks in "Anguish".

Songs that stand out for me are "Psycho Psycho" with a haunting intro and a catchy repetitive chorus (nice stereo effect too), "Hell Unleashed" (a sort of "Hell Awaits" with more breaks), the very energetic "Dementia 13" with those powerful drums, "Step Up To The Plate" if it weren't for the too monotonous vocals, those drums are again (sorry! ;)) amazing! Then there is the Death Angel-ish "Triumphal Entry" and "Savage Desire" is the one re-recorded song, a NWOBHM sounding song ("Let It Loose", of - no kidding - Savage actually popped in my mind!!) of the "Wage Of Mayhem" demo tape from 1984. The CD ends with a weaker song imo, "Merciless Truths", but I liked the reference to "Psycho Psycho" in it - nice touch :)
