Mental Horror started in 1993 and this is their third album already but I had not heard about them before. "By now Mental Horror produces (some of) the most insane, brutal, chaotic and apocalyptic extreme death metal ever heard" - said the promo sheet and I thought it might be something for me. After listening to the album it seemed the description above can be interpreted differently.

First of all I found it boring because of the repetative themes and lack of variation. The songs seem to be made after one pattern with only slight differences. The drums sound almost the same all album long and changes happen in the riffs only after long minutes. There are hardly solos in the songs and they even sound "funny" when they come to it. Though they can surprise us with the title song. It is an acoustic, atmospheric piece of music that brings hope to the listener but hope dies with the end of this song and they keep on playing monotonous, minimalist death metal.

I like brutal death metal, I like technical death metal, I like melodic death metal...etc but I have a different view on how apocalyptic, brutal, chaotic music should sound like. I am also sure there are lots of death metal fanatics who are going to like it but it was not made for my taste.
