The Spanish Lujuria offers us yet again a spoonful of happy power metal. "El Poder Del Deseo" is already their fifth album and having no idea about their earlier releases, I must assume that they still have a long way to the top. Lujuria's lyrics are entirely in Spanish so I have absolutely no idea what they're about, but in the end, it's the music that counts, right? Lujuria's classically influenced happy power metal has, in its own way, a touch of quality to it, but also fails to sound refreshing in any way.

Some things that would set them apart from other bands in a genre where even some very good bands have difficulties to stand out, seems to be overly difficult for Lujuria. Unless you count Oscar Sancho's voice as one, although he sounds like he has had a little too much whisky just before the recording. I have enormous difficulties getting adjusted to his voice, which would suit much better on a thrash metal or a sleazy biker rock album. The keyboard sound is also something that must be pointed out. I can't help it, but it sounds to me like a mix of hammond and a toy-synthesizer from the 80's.

The album features such guest stars as Ángel (Tierra Santa) and Elisa (ex-Dark Moor) but it doesn't seem to help them out. Surely there are times when the catchiness of the choruses makes your foot tap and your head nod, but most of the time the music is just uninspiring. Surely die hard fans of power metal can check this out, even if there isn't anything spectacular on the album.
