The German band Justice exists for something like 14 years now. They started as a cover band so no wonder why did I meet their name just last year. Exactly it happened at the Wacken Open Air due to a schedule change. A lot of people had already gathered in the tent when I got there and they seemed to have a really good time. Soon I could experience myself why people were so crazy about them.

Justice play pleasant melodic thrash metal included a big amount of death metal. It's half and hour of whirling, powerful music but doesn't hold too much surprise. Well-known themes of the above mentioned styles have been used and combined to create their own character. Fresh energy and a thick sound marks their music. The heavy, catchy melodies stick to your head easily and even days later you can recall them immediately. They are also influenced by modern extreme music, you can feel it in the memorable guitar solos. The power metal-ish passages are also refreshing in this kind of heavy music, and it also helps to form their very own style. The songs are written in the same tone but varied and even if you feel you're listening to a song that was already on before they are all different. Some of them are more death metal orientated with tight, straight, dry rhythms while others are flowing, whirling, "always in motion" melodic ones. Except the two grinding intemezzos "R.C.P.A.S. Pt 1" and "R.C.P.A.S. Pt 2" the songs are well built, showing their skills they've gathered through the years.

When it comes to bands playing this kind of music the vocals may become a very important part. There are different ways how the vocalists are supposed to growl and I'm a big fan of the deep, understandable type we can find in Justice. Mitch is really "growling up" from down under. His voice is dark and strict and they use ligther, clear vocals too. Though I saw them only once I can clearly remember after listening to their album which songs they did play at the festival. All the songs are great on this album but as always, there are some outstanding ones. In the case of Justice I would like to mention two. I especially like "Rotten To The Core" that kicks off with rock-ish guitar riffs, that shows up again and again till the song lasts, this song is really guitar orientated. They used growlings just in the chorus parts so the clean vocals with the heavy melodies are really interesting. I'm crazy about the song "Secret Life" for its killer guitar intro but the rest of the song is also great, mid-tempo, with f** heavy melodies and easier chorus parts and of course with Mitch's deep growlings. There was only one song I didn't know what to do with, "Life Undead". It is stucked with many changes so you can get lost in the song and it`s only falling apart.

I really like this debut album, I feel a need to put it on from time to time. It's energetic and powerful, bringing life to boring weekdays at full speed.
