3. The Gray Ghost
4. Take To The Sky
5. The Last King Tiger
6. Lean Mean Leather Machine
In a time and age where everything is expected to be new and innovative, Ignitor are simply refreshing old-fashioned!! Kick ass metal, right in your face, rooted in the early 80's (in the vein of most of all Priest, a lot of old Maiden and real old Metallica, Grim Reaper, Jag Panzer etc), but still fresh because it's also influenced by today's bands like Primal Fear, Brainstorm (yeah!:)) and Grave Digger. Still I think they have a style of their own and they do their thing very well. Lyrically they pick classic metal topics like demons or leather, but also history or politics. Musically: riffs that make you headbang, but certainly no cheap party type of stuff; great solos by Stuart "Batlord" Laurence (Agony Column) supported by crunchy guitarwork of his wife Beverly Barrington (T.A.N.G.); solid rhythmsection by Pat Doyle (The Offenders) and Brendon Bigelow (also Death Of Millions); and awesome vocals by "lean mean leather machine" Erika Swinnich (Autumn Tears) that knocked me down the minute I first heard them! Should I make a point out of two girls being part of the band? It shouldn't matter, but at the same time it does matter. Esp. when it comes to vocals, because not many girls have the power to really sing (not growl) metal! And I mean METAL, not sopranic or sweet angelic or any of that non-metal stuff that's so popular these days). Well, THIS girl can! Like Betsy or Leather, she has the voice, the range and most of all the power to truly front a metal band!

"Demonslayer" starts mid-tempo, but I most of all love those killer fast riffs in the middle and the end! "Execution" is a furious song critizing the death penalty in the US, "The Gray Ghost" is more mid-tempo again, telling us about the Queen Mary, a transporting ship, bringing 14,000 service men and women to the Red Sea during the war, in 1942. The summer was hot and the ship only equipped for like 3,000 passengers, so many died and the ship ended up being one of the most haunted places of the world. I found this very interesting story about it! Ok back to the music: some great vocals there, as well as in "Take To The Sky" which is not a Jag Panzer cover hehe, but it does hail the Metal Gods ;) The vocals are a bit different in "The Last King Tiger" and it has a bit of a happy metal influence, so I don't like that song so much. Luckily it all gets vocally aggressive and musically sleazy when Erika describes herself as the "Lean Mean Leather Machine". These Texans may not appeal to every metalhead out there, but if you appreciate classic heavy metal, you just HAVE to check this demo out at www.ignitor.org !
