As you may know I am usually not a fan of the melodic speed genre, or bands that come close, but the Brasilian band Hibria is just too good to ignore! Actually it's also because melodic speed is just a part of their music, it's mostly based on classic heavy metal. A sort of Hellomegamaidendeth, mixed by Iron Savior's Piet Sielck. And then with an immense powerful voice with a high range - what a talent Iuri Sanson is! I will be surprised if he doesn't belong to the absolute world-top in a few years - I kid you not! Of course I can't forget about the other talents in the band, for the guitarists Abel Camargo and Diego Kasper are responsible for great melodies and solos as well as heavy, mindblowing riffs, and bassist Marco Panichi and outstanding drummer Savio Sordi make it all extra powerful and grooving! Instead of adding keyboards and big orchestral arrangements, they choose to just kick ass with an aggressive approach!

The intro already starts with a haunting rhythmsection and a melodic guitarsolo, then all systems go at "Steel Lord On Wheels". Yeah, sure, cliché songtitle, but there's a lot of Dio and other pure heavy metal in there. "Change Your Life"'s chorus is a way too cheesy for me, but Iuri's vocals in several other parts make more than up for it. Nice twin-guitarsoloing in "Milennium Quest", a pretty fast song with mostly high vocals. In the beginning of "A Kingdom To Share" bassist Marco gets a chance to shine a little, "Living Under Ice" is very melodic, but "Defying The Rules" is a fast neckbreaker again. In the second half there is a kick ass slower part, where for a moment the Dio-ish voice shines through again, awesome! But by now I've heard enough "happy" music and ditto vocals, time for a bit more mid-range stuff and "The Faceless In Charge" is getting more into that direction again, it's more diverse, slightly progressive even. It also contains a cool, almost spoken part in an aggressive Mustaine way. "High Speed Breakout" has one of those cheesy chorusses again, but is pretty heavy in between, thanks to heavy guitarriffs and prominent basslines. Then the ultimate gem on this album, "Stare At Yourself". In the beginning still pretty melodic, but the 7.45 minutes long song is very versitale and contains all Hibria ingredients. Towards the end the tension builds up and it climaxes into an aggressive "Stare at yourself... and find yourself!". Excellent!
