I knew Dirk Barron as the substitute-singer for Brainstorm at the Wacken Open Air 1999. And a great job he did there! But I knew he was more into Pantera type of stuff and I was wondering when I'd hear from him again. Well, almost 5 years later! I ran into him at a Brainstorm gig in Cologne and he gave me this CD, warning me it might not be my style, since he's into more modern things these days. So I was expecting something in the nu-metal direction, but it's not like that at all! It's more like Pantera going prog with a weird twist. A Dirk Barron, oh excuse me, Gavin Godgray twist :) Dirk/Gavin presents his many vocal talents (this guy made it to one of the last rounds for the new Priest singer back then!) and it's a refreshing mix, varying from deep death/thrash vocals to clean to high pitched screams! Musically you can expect a lot of technical thrash, but also progressive and sometimes plain out weird parts. I think Strapping Young Lad, Death Machine and some Pain Of Salvation fans would love this stuff too - even when it's not THAT hectic, THAT progressive nor THAT emotional.

"Crucify The Enemy" already showcasts the bands diversity... this grooving, heavy and sometimes fast song includes a weird part with clean vocals that's, to my ears, totally off-key, but it's just supposed to be that (weird) way, it includes some keys, some fast blast beat black metal parts with alternative death and black vocals, immediately followed by a passionate clean vocal part - this is Gavin for ya! "From Flesh To Liquid" is more melodic and "Sunlight Black" is just a wonderful song. Great chorus that will get stuck in your head! "Scumnation" has more keyboards - I can't really say all that much about each song, just know that you'll find all the Godgray ingredients in each song in one way or another. Just take the journey and enjoy this scumbag divine service on http://www.godgray.com.
