Pete Ahonen, vocalist & guitar-player of Burning Point, formed Ghost Machinery back in 2002 and "Haunting Remains" is their debut album. The line-up is completed by only two additional members, Tapsa Pelkonen and Jussi Ontero (both Wildcard) in case that tells you something. Like so many other (Finnish) bands Ghost Machinery play symphonic melodic power metal, or neo-classical power metal as the band (or their label) prefers to say. Both of the terms are fitting, so that shouldn't be the problem here ;)

In fact there's not much of a problem other than I don't like this kind of metal much. While giving the album the first brief listen I often thought of Stratovarius with a more tolerable singer ("Blinded Eyes" for example), Gamma Ray, Edguy ("World Of Unbelievers"), Nocturnal Rites ("Evil Within Us"), Sonata Arctica ...you get the idea. It's not the band's fault they're belonging to a genre I don't feel very comfortable with and I surely have to say that the songs are well-executed. How original the material is is another story. I also have to admit that the track "Darkest Hour" (the bridge/chorus especially) cought my attention, I am really liking this one.
Apart from all the power metal there's also some plain (hard) rock influences in there and as if to prove this Ghost Machinery covered Gary Moore's "Out In The Fields" with lead vocals by Sentenced's Ville Vaihiala (the Oulu-connection ;)).

Definitely a recommendation for fans of the abovementioned bands!
