Fragments Of Unbecoming are a quite new band and "Skywards - Chapter II - A Sylphe's Ascension" is their debut album (they have only released a self-financed MCD before). The band is from Germany but they do sound very Swedish. Fans of classic melodic death metal watch out! This could be something for you.

The band claims to be influenced by bands such as At The Gates, Edge Of Sanity, Dissection and Unanimated and it shows. I'd like to throw in old Dark Tranquillity for good measure. As I said, very Swedish. There's not much that distinguishes Fragments Of Unbecoming from the mass of other melodic death metal bands out there but there's still quite some positive points.

The albums kicks off with an acoustic intro featuring some thunder and rain in the background.....very dreamy. But already during the first real song "The Seventh Sunray Enlights My Pathway" you'll get the idea what this band is about. Typical Swedish guitar sound, often with melodic double guitar leads and a lot of time changes also, which results in songs that are certainly not repetitive. There's everything from blastbeat parts to acoustic interludes. "Shapes Of The Persuers" all of a sudden ends with an acoustic outro, while "Mesmerized" is an all acoustic instrumental and also intro to song #6, "Entangled Whispers In The Depth".
I find the vocals on "Skywards - Chapter II - A Sylphe's Ascension" to be very pleasant to listen to. There are no clean vocals on this one, but vocalist and guitarist Stefan is not one of these horrible growlers that you cannot understand a word of ;) His vocals range between semi-melodic growling and shouting (never shrieking though) and there's even some whispering on "Entangled Whispers In The Depth" (just like the title of the song suggests, hehe).

Even though the albums fails to really grab me (it seems to lack the certain "something" for me), I believe there are a lot of people out there who will really dig this one. Definitely a promising debut!
