I've got a recipe for whatever the hell The End are trying to accomplish. Take one part Dillinger Escape Plan, one part meat grinder. Combine. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place new concoction in audio listening device. Send the remains of your battered and bruised skull to The End, and congratulate them in gibberish about how they rocked your world. It really is as simple as that. Have I mentioned that The End are Canadian? Well, they are. But enough about culinary prowess and ethnic origin, this album is plainly the most insane thing Relapse has put out since I don't know when.

I really should email these gents and find out how they got an octpus to play on their album, and what they kept him hydrated with. Seriously, folks, drummer Anthony Salajko is not of this earth. Right from lead off track "These Walls", he asserts himself as being worthy of speech in the same breath as Flo and Gene, who, incidentally, are also really just aliens waiting to go home. His schizoid, frenetic, alter-rhythm strategy is complemented perfectly by the studied and angular guitar acrobatics of Steve Watson and Andrew Bercules, both of them trading pounding riff for anti-groove, somber passage for surgical precision during that wide awake lobotomy The End is promising. And then there's is the matter of The End's vocalist, a kind and small of stature gentleman known as Aaron Wolff. The man is a scant twenty years old. I know I shouldn't talk, I'm only 22 myself, but I'll be damned if I've heard a better, more inconceivable vocal performance from any vocalist within this genre, ever. Although I haven't a clue what genre this music is, I'm sure The End are the reigning kings. Let's see here, it isn't pure grind. Certainly The End do not play death metal. They do have a jazzy element or 55, 000 in their music, as well as a hardcore and thrash pedigree. I'm not even going to try and combine those. It's just too much work and I'm craving the abuse this album is about to hurl at me once more. Really, I don't understand music like this, I don't "get it" at all whatsoever. And I couldn't care less. The End is future of extreme music.
