After 5 studio albums the German power metal band Edguy thought it was time to release a live album. The song material consisting of Edguy's three latest studio albums and Tobias Sammet's solo release Avantasia, they came up with a live album that kicks so much arse that at least all Edguy fans should be pleased to lose their money for this.

The first disc starts off with "Welcome To The Opera" which is an intro from the Avantasia album. "Fallen Angels" is the first actual song and the crowd in Paris, where the whole album was recorded, starts going nuts. Next up is the title track from their latest studio effort "Mandrake". On "Tears Of A Mandrake" Sammet gets to show how he more and more starts to sound like the almighty Bruce Dickinson. "Land Of The Miracle" is a ballad from "Theater of Salvation" and the band's playing is really tight here. "The Headless Game" starts with Sammet's almost yodeling-like singing and cheering the crowd to sing along for a few minutes until the actual song kicks in. "The Pharaoh" is the next one and with a little help from Sammet the crowd's participation is very nice. This one is also the last tune on disc one.

The speedy "Save Us Now" is the next one since there are a few (5 to be exact) songs missing on this promotional version. For instance "Solitary Bunny", a drum solo, is missing here. Luckily I'm not too keen on hearing a drum solo on a live album. It may work very well in the actual concert, but I don't see the point in bringing one to a live album. Oh well, on with the show. "How Many Miles" doesn't offer anything else but a damn kickass song and Sammet again making the crowd sing with him and joking continuously. "Inside" is a ballad from the Avantasia rock opera and is followed by the title track from the same album. "Avantasia" is so catchy and excellent song that I don't think they could have afforded to leave it out. The only thing that's missing is Michael Kiske making a guest appearance. Same goes for the last song on the album, "Out of Control". As amazing as the song already is, Hansi Kürsch's vocal lines in the chorus always sent shivers down my spine and I was really hoping to hear that one too. Well, the song is killer anyway, so I won't complain. The sound quality of the album is really great and one almost gets the feeling of being part of the crowd. The live album is filled with Edguy's greatest tunes and it allows us to see the band's material from the godly "Vain Glory Opera" up to their newest releases. Highly recommended for not only to Edguy fans, but also to friends of melodic power metal in general.
