Here it is: the long-awaited debut album from these Swedish deathsters lead by Mikael Sandorf, ex. Gates Of Ishtar. In fact, The Duskfall may be called heir-at-law of Gates Of Ishtar, as the band's drummer is Oskar Karlsson, also ex. GoI. But let's talk business. The Duskfall's music is no doubt SMDM, evolved with consideration of all modern tendencies (who said trends?) in metal. Besides Gates' heritage you can hear some In Flames (one of Mike's favourite bands), you can hear some thrash influences, and - surprise! - plenty of neoclassical solos. Being produced by Daniel Bergstrand, soundwise "Frailty" is not unlike Darkane's latest album, which for me is advantage. Musicians' playing is perfect, Kaj Jaakkola's growling is one of the best in melodic death metal, and all ten songs on the album are heavy and brutal yet extremely melodic and catchy... As a sum we have a great post-SMDM album, maybe not too original, but qualititative and filled with hooks. It's not a senseless reunion, it's not a "back-to-the-roots" record, it's fresh, modern and a genre-developing album. "Frailty" is a perfect example of 21st-century melodic death metal.
