In November 2002, Deicide signed a new worldwide deal with Earache Records. With the new deal and the release of "Scars Of The Crucifix", produced by Neil Kernon, Deicide are strongly back, but it seems they ship into a bit modern fields. Experimental (yes, yes, yes), but still brutal and with their typical anti-Christian lyrics. As it is for death metal, the album is only about 26 minutes, which gives an average of less then 3 minutes per song. Therefore, they are tight, straight forward and neck-breaking. Deicide promised "insane solos and tortured, grimacing riffs find themselves doing a battle with Glen's possessed vocal exultations as the 9 unholy evocations spit and snarl their way from the speakers". I have to agree on it, this sentence describes the album perfect! My personal faves of the album are "Fuck Your God", "From Darkness Come" and "Do Now Your Lord Is Dead". Once again I have realized that Glen Benton has one of the most pleasant (yes, indeed) death vocals I know of, I enjoy the way he combinates different styles. For the fans of the old Deicide, "Scars Of The Crucifix" maybe not be exactly in the old vein, but it surely brings back one of the best satanic death metal bands of the U.S.
