rating: 4.5/5

3. Lying and Weak
4. Sensual Sickness
5. Calling
6. The Negation
7. Long-Desired Dementia
8. The Empty Throne

These Polish guys have been learning music at school from age 7 - a solid base for them to develop into a band that's way ahead of other similar young bands, releasing top-notch technical metal to the world from their mid-teens. The "kids" are in their early twenties now and have proven to be a mature band and for me are they are definitely among the absolute kings in death metal-land! I love this kind of technical death metal. Maybe "The Negation" is a bit less complex than "Nihility", but it just leaves more room for the songs themselves and that's what makes this album so dynamic and refreshing: quality songwriting is more important than simply showing good musicianship. Still there are amazing song-structures, dazzling solos and drumparts (lots of fast double-bass), progressive and/or sick ideas and brutal vocals, but the songs can breathe more and at the same time its groove and heaviness will kick your ass more than ever. The production also adds to that for it's very clear.

"The Fury" opens... well, furious :) Fast beats, great solo. "Three-Dimensional Defect" is more diverse - brilliant song! "Lying and Weak" is again fast with a great thrash riff, "Sensual Sickness" has some of the sickest (and fast) ideas. Then it's time for a little break with "Calling": a soaring, spooky kind of intro to the titletrack "The Negation" that starts very pounding. Again great solos from Vogg and the song is in general slower and ultraheavy! In "Long-Desired Dementia" the pace goes up again, and slows down for "The Empty Throne" which has a very specific atmosphere with its slow, dark riffing, fast doublebass and lots of groove. On the slipcase limited edition you'll also get a Deicide cover ("Lunatic Of God's Creation").

Like many death metal CDs, this one also lasts for only half an hour. Musically I could listen to this for hours and hours though, as it's intelligent, technical and very diverse. Only Sauron's vocals sometimes bother me. I really dig the voice itself, but I've been craving for a little change here and there that never came. But I got used to it, so I subtracted only half a Morrigan from the perfect score, since the musical rollercoaster these guys take you on left me breathless!
