Cydonia combine brilliant thrashy riffing (definitely Bay-Area influenced), great soloing and a dirty bass-sound with melodic choruses and a few modern touches here and there. It results in a very refreshing combination of thrash, power and prog. Just the kind of band that would be perfect on a ProgPower bill (hint, hint;))! Dan Keying's one hell of a singer with a lot of power and emotion in his voice, his vocallines are sometimes very melodic, sometimes aggressive (I just love the aggressive parts at the end of "One Last Crime"!), and he adds an occasional high-pitched scream in the right places ("Midnight Man"). Mostly in the aggressive parts he sometimes reminds me of Andy B. Franck (Symphorce, Brainstorm) - not so much the voice itself but more the vocallines/background vocals etc. "The Dark Flower" has a lyrical concept about how "soldiers of light" are controlling the world we live in, "The Dark Flower", which is just a distraction from another (real) dimension we're not supposed to see. Eerie stuff ;) Among the songs is one cover, Russ Ballard's "Voices", and if you ever heard the original, you'll have to come and listen to the version Dan & co. made of it, to believe how heavy it can sound. It's been transformed to a Cydonia song very well for I didn't suspect it was a cover at first. The quality of the songwriting is very high, there are no fillers - if you're willing to try a fresh mix of melody and aggression, prog and thrash, then by all means go for it!
