A search committee formed to guide the selection of the new UW-Madison chancellor
The University of Wisconsin system announcement As of Thursday, a committee dedicated to finding candidates to replace the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Rebecca Blank, had been formed.
White will be leaving her position at the end of the spring semester to become president of Northwestern University.
The search and screening committee is expected to meet from December and begin the search process in January. UW System’s director of media relations, Mark Pitsch, pointed out that there was no set timeline for completing the research process.
UW board chairman Edmund Manydeeds III explained why choosing a new chancellor is such a big job.
“Chancellor Blank has done a tremendous job, and I anticipate her successor will build on her many accomplishments,” said Manydeeds.
The 21-member committee was appointed by Manydeeds and UW System Chairman Tommy Thompson. Committee members include regents, students, faculty and staff, as well as community representatives.
Three students from UW-Madison, Ndemazea Fonkem, Aerin Leigh Lammers and Luis Gonzalez-Quizhpe were selected to serve on the committee. Fonkem and Lammers are both members of the Associated Students of Madison (ASM), the student governance body of UW-Madison.
This range of perspectives will be paramount in keeping the best interests of the university and the state in mind when selecting and interviewing candidates for the position, said Karen Walsh, vice president and president. of the selection committee.
Applicants will be found through a joint effort between the Search and Screening Committee, a team from the UW System Human Resources department, the Board of Directors office and executive search firm AGB Search.
After finding potential candidates, the committee will interview them and forward them to a special committee of regents for review. The next Chancellor will have to be confirmed by the entire Board of Regents.
